One of the many innovations modern technology has provided is voice over Internet protocol phone services. These allow you to make calls to mobile and land phone numbers and other computers by sending a signal through your modem and over the Internet to the recipient. VoIP services can be much cheaper than most other plans, and some calls can be made for free.
Call the landline using your cable provider’s digital voice plan. Most major cable companies offer a triple play package that includes high-speed Internet, digital TV and digital calling. The phone option is a VoIP service. It allows you to make unlimited domestic calls for a flat monthly rate.
Dial the landline from within Skype or JAJAH. While you can make free computer-to-computer calls with these services if both you and the person on the other end have the program’s software, you can also register to use the service to call landlines. There are small per-minute fees attached to these calls.
Create a Gmail account if you do not already have one and utilize the Google Voice feature. After downloading the program’s software, you can make free VoIP calls to any phone number in the U.S. or Canada. Click the “Dial Number” option under “Chat” and dial the landline you wish to call. A microphone or headset is required to use this feature.
